IBM, MontaVista Products Reduce Power in Consumer Electronics

IBM and MontaVista Software Inc. today announced a combination of technologies that could significantly extend battery life in consumer electronic products. The companies have shown that pairing the IBM PowerPC 405LP embedded processor with MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) may reduce processor power consumption as much as 50 percent. This could translate to an estimated 20-percent overall power savings in a wide range of products such as smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs), helping extend battery life and reducing their size and cost.

MontaVista Linux Powers NEC’s New Home Server

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution™, today announced the selection of MontaVista™ Linux® as the operating system for AX10, the new home AV server from NEC (TSE: 6701). The NEC AX10 home server is a disk-based recorder for audio-visual applications and is one of the “new style” of products developed by NEC as part of its personal computer line. With this “TV in a PC,” consumers can view, listen, edit, and save TV programs onto a hard disk or videotape. The AX10 lets users record broadcast content even when they are away from home, by using an i-mode cellular phone. Zintec Selects MontaVista Linux as Foundation Platform for New Set-Top Box Products

MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced a collaboration with Zintec Holding, a company developing digital broadcast information system software for next-generation set-top box products. In Q1 2003, Zintec plans to deliver Open TV EN-2 set-top box software which has been developed using MontaVista™ Linux® Professional Edition.
