MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced the selection of MontaVista® Linux® as the development platform and operating system for Broadnow, the new broadband TV tuner from Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd: NYSE: MC; TSE: 6572). The Broadnow TV tuner is the first product in Matsushita’s new category of Broadband TVs that will allow consumers to experience high-quality video, music and other content distributed through broadband networks such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and ADSL, with remote control of video recording via email. MontaVista Software will be displaying the Panasonic Broadnow at its booth (# 2210) at the Embedded Systems Conference, April 23-25, 2003, in San Francisco, at the Moscone Center.

Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) and MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced the signing of a major multi-year corporate contract for MontaVista™ Linux® Carrier Grade Edition, an industry standard Linux platform for telecommunications applications. MontaVista® Linux® Carrier Grade Edition will be a building block for Alcatel products with embedded or real-time constraints.

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and Zultys Technologies, which designs and manufactures products that integrate telecommunications and data communications for enterprise networks, today announced that MontaVista™ Linux® Professional Edition 3.0 is the chosen operating system for two newly launched Zultys devices, the ZIP 4x4 IP phone and the Zultys MX1200. The ZIP 4x4 integrates an IP phone with a multi-port switch while the MX1200 is the industry’s first enterprise media exchange product to deliver sophisticated PBX (private branch exchange), switch, router, and Internet gateway functionality in a single box.

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that MontaVista™ Linux® is the chosen operating system for the recently announced Motorola A760 mobile phone, the world's first handset based on Linux and Java technology. The Motorola A760 combines features of a mobile phone with the capabilities of a personal digital assistant (PDA), digital camera, video player, MP3 player, speakerphone, advanced messaging, instant Internet access and Bluetooth™ wireless technology. The A760 is Motorola’s first handset demonstrating the company’s commitment to making the Linux operating system a key pillar of its handset software strategy. Motorola will be displaying this phone in its booth (# 4245) at the CTIA Wireless Conference this week in New Orleans.

MontaVista Software, the company powering the embedded revolution, and Hughes Software Systems (HSS), specialists in software components and services for convergent networks, today strengthened their existing partnership by announcing the enhanced availability of the HSS suite of telecommunications protocol stacks on MontaVista™ Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE). Today, the two companies announced the immediate availability of HSS VoIP, Wireless, and Wireline protocol stacks now validated on MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux, including MAP, RANAP and GTP-C/U. Last year, HSS validated its SS7 and SIGTRAN protocol stacks on MontaVista Linux.

IBM and MontaVista Software Inc. today announced a combination of technologies that could significantly extend battery life in consumer electronic products. The companies have shown that pairing the IBM PowerPC 405LP embedded processor with MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) may reduce processor power consumption as much as 50 percent. This could translate to an estimated 20-percent overall power savings in a wide range of products such as smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs), helping extend battery life and reducing their size and cost.

Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) and MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that the MontaVista™ Linux® Professional Edition now supports Altera’s Excalibur™ EPXA1 Development Kit. Together, the two companies are providing embedded system designers with a direct path to lower product costs and reduce time-to-market with the world’s first on-the-fly reconfigurable embedded Linux system, utilizing the MontaVista Linux Professional Edition, the leading embedded Linux OS and development platform, and Altera’s Excalibur embedded processor solutions.

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution™, today announced the selection of MontaVista™ Linux® as the operating system for AX10, the new home AV server from NEC (TSE: 6701). The NEC AX10 home server is a disk-based recorder for audio-visual applications and is one of the “new style” of products developed by NEC as part of its personal computer line. With this “TV in a PC,” consumers can view, listen, edit, and save TV programs onto a hard disk or videotape. The AX10 lets users record broadcast content even when they are away from home, by using an i-mode cellular phone. It also connects personal PCs in a home network (wireless, Ethernet, etc.) with a variety of audio-visual equipment and distributes recorded content to every TV or PC in the home.

Omron’s popular Mobile Wnn entry system running on the award-winning embedded MontaVista™ Linux® platform will help embedded developers turn consumer electronics devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs, into high-quality mobile terminals.

MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced a collaboration with Zintec Holding, a company developing digital broadcast information system software for next-generation set-top box products. In Q1 2003, Zintec plans to deliver Open TV EN-2 set-top box software which has been developed using MontaVista™ Linux® Professional Edition. Zintec’s next-generation set-top software products will also be built using the powerful MontaVista Linux development platform. The software will be used on the ZDX 7200 (full-featured Open TV set-top box) and on the ZDX 720 (budget Open TV set-top box), which are manufactured and shipped by Zinwell, a major customer of Zintec. Zintec will also use MontaVista Linux for its PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and IP TV line of products. Zintec software products run on TMS320AV7200, a fully integrated set-top box solution from Texas Instruments.

MontaVista Linux is the widely used cross-development platform from MontaVista Software. Hughes Software Systems (HSS), specialists in convergent network software, today announced a partnership with MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution. Under terms of this agreement, the HSS Wireless GPRS/3G, Voice over Packet and SS7 protocol stacks will be ported and validated for MontaVista™ Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE). “HSS is providing support to an increasing number of network equipment providers who are demanding carrier-grade Linux platforms for their next-generation infrastructure products,” said Manoranjan Mahopatra, chief operating officer, Hughes Software Systems. “The availability of HSS stacks for MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition will drastically reduce development cost and time-to-market for these OEMs.”

MontaVista Software will exhibit this new thin-client product, the Nexterm SE, at its Booth 25-52 at Embedded System Expo and Conference (ESEC), June 26 and 28, 2002, Tokyo.

MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, is pleased to announce that Cirpack is currently providing telecom operators with robust voice infrastructure solutions developed using MontaVista™ High Availability (HA) Framework. The Cirpack solutions deliver field-proven carrier-class features meeting high availability requirements. Cirpack develops next generation voice switching equipment for telecom service providers’ infrastructure. The Cirpack solutions manage Class-4 and Class-5 telephony services over any type of local loop and core network simultaneously, using IP, ATM and TDM protocols. They are based on an Intel CompactPCI shelf, hosting Cirpack’s copper and fiber interface boards.
