StreetFire Sound Labs’ RBX1600 Music Server Powered By MontaVista Linux

Provides Optimal Real-Time Performance for Open Source Stereo Equipment

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 25, 2004 — MontaVista Software, and StreetFire Sound Labs, an open architecture stereo equipment company, today announced that MontaVista® Linux® is the chosen operating system for StreetFire’s debut RBX1600 Digital Music Server.

The StreetFire RBX1600 Digital Music Server is the first of an ecosystem of StreetFire home stereo/home theater products. The RBX1600 puts a smart, networked front-end on cost-effective Sony CD jukeboxes, integrating hundreds - or even thousands - of users’ CD-based music with hard drive-based MP3 tunes. Client software for the RBX1600 provides an intuitive interface for managing music collections and is compatible with Windows, Apple Macintosh, or Linux platforms. Now it’s possible to simply enjoy music regardless of its format or location.

“The RBX1600 is a revolutionary step in bringing the Open Source movement to consumer electronics and digital music,” said Stephen Street, Founder and CEO of StreetFire Sound Labs. “MontaVista Linux, and its excellent MontaVista DevRocket™ development tools environment, were the perfect combination for our StreetRacer™ CPU card, which is based on Intel XScale® technology. We were able to get the required performance out of our hardware for real-time music performance and shorten our development time.”

“StreetFire is at the leading edge of digital home entertainment with the RBX1600, a product that should be very well received by consumers,” said Mike Mathews, senior product marketing manager, MontaVista Software. “MontaVista Linux is a leading platform for home entertainment devices because it provides more flexibility and control to device manufacturers, with a lower development and deployment cost compared to other operating systems.”

According to StreetFire, the following requirements led it to move to MontaVista Linux:
