MIPS Alliance Program Taps MontaVista Software

Hard Hat Linux to Target MIPS32™ and MIPS64™ CPUs and Cores for Network Appliances and Office Equipment

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 31, 2001 - MontaVista Software Inc., provider of Hard Hat Linux, the most widely-used Linux distribution in embedded systems, today announced that it is joining MIPS Technologies', (Nasdaq: MIPS; MIPSB) MIPS Alliance Program (MAP).

"MontaVista already has demonstrated its commitment to providing embedded Linux products on MIPS-based processors," said Brian Knowles, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "By joining MAP, MontaVista has access to MIPS Technologies' reference platform which facilitates their investment in the MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures."

"Supporting MIPS processors was an easy decision for MontaVista," adds Jim Ready, president of MontaVista Software and embedded industry pioneer. "Joining the MIPS Alliance Program allows us to expand our MIPS-based offerings, to serve our current customers and to win new MIPS-based designs for networking equipment, home networks, and office imaging devices."

MontaVista offers a comprehensive development environment for the embedded Linux operating system targeting MIPS-based processors, including the NEC VR41xx and VR54xx, the QED RM5xxx, and Alchemy Semiconductor Au1000 family of embedded microprocessors. The MontaVista Hard Hat Linux leverages reference designs and evaluation boards from these same silicon vendors, and offers support for customer-specific designs.
