C.N.S. Systems Chooses MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition for Advanced Aviation Communications Equipment

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and C.N.S. Systems AB, which develops and markets systems for communication, navigation and surveillance for civil aviation, maritime and land markets, today announced that MontaVista® Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) 3.0 is the chosen operating system for the data management, and monitoring and control subsystems in the new VDL 4000/GS I ground station from C.N.S. Systems.

MontaVista Software and INFOCITY Enable Faster Boot Times for Linux-based Consumer Electronics Devices

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and INFOCITY, Inc. today announced that INFOCITY’s new product FlashBoot, supports MontaVista® Linux® Professional Edition 3.0 (Pro) as its first reference operating system (OS). FlashBoot is a bootup module that enables safe loading of the OS running on a range of information appliances. FlashBoot loads the MontaVista Linux kernel from flash memory and boots up after initializing the device hardware. By supporting the JFFS2 file system, FlashBoot enables HDD-less boot-up with easy system configuration. Multiplexed system management capabilities allow users to select or boot any of multiple kernels on flash ROM, and upgrade the system in a sexp_channel_data_field_1_current and simple way even after the product is shipped. Using duplicated booting images and memory check features, systems can boot easily and in a sexp_channel_data_field_1_current fashion. In the event of system failure during the creation of the OS boot images, FlashBoot provides a safe re-start using backup boot images.

IDT AND MONTAVISTA SOFTWARE EXPAND PARTNERSHIP TO PROVIDE EMBEDDED LINUX SUPPORT FOR IDT INTERPRISE™ PROCESSOR

IDT™ (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, and MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced the extension of a partnership to provide Linux® support for the IDT Interprise™ family of integrated communications processors. The MontaVista® Linux Professional Edition 3.0 supports the IDT 79EB438 evaluation board that includes the IDT RC32438 Interprise™ PCI processor. The IDT RC32438 processor is ideal for communications applications within the enterprise and access markets including desktop/workgroup switches, gateways, wireless access points (WAPs) and virtual private network (VPN) equipment.

Divitron Picks MontaVista Linux for Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial Device

MontaVista Linux Powers New Panasonic Broadband TV Tuner

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced the selection of MontaVista® Linux® as the development platform and operating system for Broadnow, the new broadband TV tuner from Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd: NYSE: MC; TSE: 6572). The Broadnow TV tuner is the first product in Matsushita’s new category of Broadband TVs that will allow consumers to experience high-quality video, music and other content distributed through broadband networks such as fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and ADSL, with remote control of video recording via email. MontaVista Software will be displaying the Panasonic Broadnow at its booth (# 2210) at the Embedded Systems Conference, April 23-25, 2003, in San Francisco, at the Moscone Center.

MontaVista Software and Hughes Software Systems Enhance Availability of Telecom Software Components

MontaVista Software, the company powering the embedded revolution, and Hughes Software Systems (HSS), specialists in software components and services for convergent networks, today strengthened their existing partnership by announcing the enhanced availability of the HSS suite of telecommunications protocol stacks on MontaVista™ Linux® Carrier Grade Edition (CGE). Today, the two companies announced the immediate availability of HSS VoIP, Wireless, and Wireline protocol stacks now validated on MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux, including MAP, RANAP and GTP-C/U. Last year, HSS validated its SS7 and SIGTRAN protocol stacks on MontaVista Linux.

IBM, MontaVista Products Reduce Power in Consumer Electronics

IBM and MontaVista Software Inc. today announced a combination of technologies that could significantly extend battery life in consumer electronic products. The companies have shown that pairing the IBM PowerPC 405LP embedded processor with MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) may reduce processor power consumption as much as 50 percent. This could translate to an estimated 20-percent overall power savings in a wide range of products such as smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs), helping extend battery life and reducing their size and cost.

MontaVista Linux Powers NEC’s New Home Server

MontaVista Software, Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution™, today announced the selection of MontaVista™ Linux® as the operating system for AX10, the new home AV server from NEC (TSE: 6701). The NEC AX10 home server is a disk-based recorder for audio-visual applications and is one of the “new style” of products developed by NEC as part of its personal computer line. With this “TV in a PC,” consumers can view, listen, edit, and save TV programs onto a hard disk or videotape. The AX10 lets users record broadcast content even when they are away from home, by using an i-mode cellular phone. It also connects personal PCs in a home network (wireless, Ethernet, etc.) with a variety of audio-visual equipment and distributes recorded content to every TV or PC in the home.

Zintec Selects MontaVista Linux as Foundation Platform for New Set-Top Box Products

MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced a collaboration with Zintec Holding, a company developing digital broadcast information system software for next-generation set-top box products. In Q1 2003, Zintec plans to deliver Open TV EN-2 set-top box software which has been developed using MontaVista™ Linux® Professional Edition. Zintec’s next-generation set-top software products will also be built using the powerful MontaVista Linux development platform. The software will be used on the ZDX 7200 (full-featured Open TV set-top box) and on the ZDX 720 (budget Open TV set-top box), which are manufactured and shipped by Zinwell, a major customer of Zintec. Zintec will also use MontaVista Linux for its PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and IP TV line of products. Zintec software products run on TMS320AV7200, a fully integrated set-top box solution from Texas Instruments.
