Mark Orvek has more than 20 years of experience in embedded systems and operating system software.  Orvek joined MontaVista in 1999 as the director of engineering, responsible for new product development focused on making the Linux operating system suitable for embedded systems and embedded applications.  He has managed the development of key technologies for Linux including multi-architecture platform support, real-time, carrier grade high availability, small footprint, fast boot, power management and most recently the MontaVista Linux 6 Integration Platform.

Prior to joining MontaVista, Orvek was with Hewlett Packard for 18 years. At HP, he worked in technical field support for platforms and operating systems and as a development engineer on HP’s business and real-time operating systems.  He later managed the development of the HP-RT real-time operating system, Event Monitoring System and the HP-UX migration to IA-64 platforms.

Orvek holds BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and in Computer Science from California State University at Dominguez Hills.  He has done post-graduate work in a Master of Science Astronomy program at Swinburne University, Australia.
