Custom QA and Kernel Testing

Custom QA and Kernel Testing enables development team lacking the necessary expertise to perform I/O and kernel stress tests, while helping them bring testing process skills in-house.

Migration and Porting I/O Testing

  • LSP analysis to identify I/O features available for testing
  • Attachment of specific I/O devices to the target board
  • Kernel check for availability of I/O drivers
  • Kernel boot and I/O device detection
  • Tests for the specific I/O devices
  • Results check to verify correct I/O device functionality

Kernel Stress Testing

  • Three separate types of testing in support of numerous hosts such as RH 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, Mandrake 9.1, SuSE 8.3, 9.0 etc.
  • Includes parallel execution of:
  • a "stressor" suite to generate load, force context switches and for systems with swap, stress the virtual memory system
  • PCTS and/or LSB test suite
  • gcc tests
  • system logging

Migration and Porting I/O Testing

The MontaVista Migration and Portiing I/O Testing service is ideal for development teams without the in-house expertise to develop test cases and/or perform required I/O testing, and for teams who want to work side-by-side with qualified MontaVista testing consultant to bring I/O testing process skills in-house.

Migration and Porting I/O Testing runs through a thorough test matrix of all I/O features available on the target board. At the conclusion of this exercise, development teams can expect that all I/O features will function per the specification. In addition, the MontaVista Professional Services team provides supporting test cases, use cases and documentation of end results.

Kernel Stress Testing

This service is designed for development teams who do not have expertise in-house to develop test cases and/or perform the required kernel stress testing, and for teams who desire to work side-by-side with a qualified MontaVista testing consultant to learn the kernel stress testing process.

Under this service, a complete list and combination of test components is determined. Most tests are automated using LUP format and provide different scenarios with different system load and testing times. Each board is tested up to 24 hours depending on testing terms and requirements. This is the same level of stress testing that occurs on MV Standard Product

MontaVista offers three types of Kernel Stress Testing:

  • PCT - This test consists largely of running the NIST POSIX Compliance Test in a repeating loop, while loading the processor with a test program that adds load, context switches and memory access.
  • LTP - Linux Test Project suite. MontaVistacurrently makes the LTP tests available for targets in both local compile and cross-compile versions. This is typically done within an automated environment.
  • Open Posix - open source test suite, The Open Posix test suite contains five tests:
  • Signals
  • Semaphores
  • Threads
  • Timers
  • Message Queues

At the end of a Kernel Stress Test, MontaVista Professional Services will provide the development team with supporting test cases, use cases and documented end results.
