MontaVista® Software Adds Larry Macfarlane as Chief Marketing Officer and Promotes Derek Howard to Vice President of Engineering and Services
Santa Clara, Calif. – December 11, 2007 – MontaVista® Software, Inc. the leading provider of embedded Linux® for intelligent devices and communications infrastructure, today announced that Larry Macfarlane has joined MontaVista as the company's vice president of marketing and chief marketing officer, and that Derek Howard, MontaVista's vice president of worldwide professional services, has been promoted to vice president of engineering and services. Both executives will report to MontaVista president and CEO Tom Kelly.

Before joining MontaVista, Larry Macfarlane was president of Big Planet, the technology division of Nu Skin Enterprises, where he created the successful Photomax brand of digital memories products and services. Before Big Planet, Macfarlane served as senior director of network infrastructure and digital consumer markets for embedded development vendor Wind River Systems. There he developed new strategies that expanded the company's consumer electronics software business and restored profitability in its network infrastructure unit. Macfarlane has also served in executive positions at other high-tech companies, including president and chief executive officer of Zinc Software, vice president and general manager of the western region of Computer Equipment Warehouse, and president of systems integrator Computers Made Easy.
Prior to Derek Howard's promotion, as MontaVista's vice president of worldwide professional services he led efforts to improve the efficiency of MontaVista's hardware enablement and services resources globally, resulting in higher on-time project completion rates and increased year-over-year bookings. Before joining MontaVista, Howard was a founder of BlueStar Solutions and the company's vice president of operations and professional services. After BlueStar was acquired by ACS, a Fortune 500 company, Howard led the formation of a successful professional services unit for ACS. Before BlueStar, Howard held senior positions in multi-billion-dollar South African companies, including Alusaf Hillside and McCarthy Retail, and he worked as a consultant in the U.S. for KPMG, Siemens MicroElectronics, Nestlé, and other companies.
