 MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition Available for
Emerson Network Power’s AdvancedTCA Blades

Emerson Demos CGE in MontaVista’s Booth #1603 at Freescale Technology Forum

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 17, 2006 -- MontaVista Software, Inc., the leading embedded Linux provider for the telecommunications, mobile, and embedded markets, today announced the availability of MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) for Emerson Network Power, Embedded Computing’s KatanaQp AdvancedTCA blades and PmPPC7448 ProcessorPMC modules.  Emerson will demonstrate MontaVista CGE running on its blades and modules in MontaVista’s Booth #1603 at the Freescale Technology Forum in Orlando, Florida beginning July 24th, 2006.

“MontaVista Linux CGE is the operating system platform of choice for many Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) who want to outsource their system design and leverage cost-effective, commercial-off-the-shelf components,” said Jim Ready, chief technical officer, MontaVista Software.  “MontaVista Linux running on Emerson’s AdvancedTCA blades gives NEPs a flexible, open and proven foundation for building and deploying reliable, feature-rich, carrier-class systems.”

MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition is a field hardened Linux distribution that is widely deployed in the networks of the world’s leading carriers.  MontaVista Linux CGE complies with both the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum) Application Interface Specifications for high availability services and the Open Source Development Lab’s (OSDL) requirements for Carrier Grade Linux.  CGE includes comprehensive development tools (based on the latest open source Eclipse framework), world-class technical support and services, and is the most complete carrier-grade operating system in the industry.

The KatanaQp is a high-performance telecom blade for open architecture systems utilizing Advanced TCA chassis.  The KatanaQp features a pair of Freescale MPC7448 processors, four PTMC expansion sites, redundant IPMI-based system management interfaces, and a high-speed PICMG 3.1-compliant ATCA interface with ten-Gigabit Ethernet channels.  Key applications include WAN access, SS7/SIGTRAN signaling, media gateways, traffic processing, wireless base stations and softswitches.

The PmPPC7448 is a ProcessorPMC module that makes it easy for telecom OEMs to add high-availability processing power to telecom systems equipped with PMC expansion sites.  Based on Freescale’s MPC7448 processor, the PmPPC7448 makes an ideal control plane processor for optical and wireless infrastructure.  It’s also ideal for augmenting packet processing and routing performance in voice gateways and softswitches, and for enhancing protocol processing performance in SS7 and SIGTRAN signaling control points and gateways.
