MontaVista Partners with SKY MobileMedia, Bluefin Mobile and Digital Airways to Demonstrate Integrated Mobile Phone Solution San Diego, Calif., November 29, 2005 - MontaVista Software, Inc., the leading Linux provider for the embedded and telecommunications markets, today announced it has teamed with Mobilinux Open Framework partners SKY MobileMedia, Bluefin Mobile and Digital Airways to demonstrate an integrated mobile phone solution atop MontaVista's Linux operating system. The solution demonstration addresses many of the complexities associated with the integration and interaction of voice and data software components, making it easier for handset developers to design Linux-based mobile phones. As handset manufacturers and mobile operators look to diversify their product portfolio and service offerings, the need for a common, flexible and open platform strategy to improve margins and time to market becomes critical. Linux answers these requirements by enabling the delivery of innovative and cost-effective phone designs. This week at the World Handset Forum in SKY MobileMedia's meeting room in San Diego, CA, MontaVista and its partners will demonstrate several key feature phone requirements including telephony, web browsing and Short Message Service (SMS). The resulting solution reduces risk and allows manufacturers to focus their attention on key differentiating features leading to a fully customized handset. To create the solution, MontaVista's Linux operating system formed the underlying platform, Bluefin Mobile's LinuxTel provided the hardware abstraction layer for communication with the wireless network, SKY MobileMedia's SKY-MAP provided the mobile applications engine, and Digital Airway's Kaleido MMI delivered the visual interface and managed end user interaction. The software operates atop a Texas Instruments OMAP™ processor-based smartphone reference platform. This multi-company collaboration is a product of MontaVista's Mobilinux Open Framework program, an initiative designed to assist handset vendors that are migrating from proprietary operating system platforms to Linux. Best-of-breed mobile software vendors have ported to MontaVista Linux and are developing solutions that help accelerate the development of a complete product.
